Come join us to celebrate springtime and our progress towards fair voting, in the company of your fellow fair voting supporters!

All supporters of fair, accountable, and transparent elections are welcome at this informal pub night. Reunite with the indomitable BC-STV campaigners, toast the new enthusiasts for representative democracy, say "hello" to some of the leaders of Fair Voting BC, and have a laugh with us. We'd love it if you invited your friends to come with you and support us!

Ceili's is contributing a free drink to all ticket-holders, before 9pm. They will also have food for sale. They will let you skip the line and pay no cover charge (before 10pm).

Come find the table with the "Fair Voting BC" sign on it, on the second floor of Ceili's, any time between 6pm and 9pm.  We will stake out a table as we can, but we'll be mingling with the other folks in the bar. Give us a toast, and stay as long as you wish. Note: we don't expect the bar to be full, but if it is, they may not be able to let you in. So come early!

During the evening we will have a brief, not too boring update on recent successes by Fair Voting BC's intrepid advocates in connection with:

  • better local government elections,
  • Vancouver's options to improve its at-large city council system,
  • an opinion survey about attitudes in BC towards elections, funding, and fairness (in partnership with ThinkCity),
  • using the prorogation of Parliament, and the HST decision and referendum, as teachable moments about the unrepresentative consequences of unfair electoral systems,
  • outcomes and followup from last year's BC-STV campaign,
  • outlook for the coming year

All proceeds from your ticket, and any extra donation you are kind enough to add on, goes to Fair Voting BC. It will build up our funds for future work, and pay some outstanding bills. Sorry, we can't give tax receipts. Ceili's is not charging us anything; thank you, Ceili's! Paying by credit card is most certain, but paying by cheque (if the logistics work) saves us at least a looney in service fees. Contact Jim DeLaHunt if interested.

"Democracy Drinks" is series of fun-raisers, which let our supporters enjoy each other's company and support fair voting at the same time.  We will build over the coming months, and spread to cities across the province. Kamloops kicked off Democracy Drinks last week, and now it's Vancouver's turn.

Fair Voting BC (FVBC) is a province-wide non- and multipartisan non-profit society which works to promote fair, accountable and transparent democratc processes at all levels of government in BC. We served as the official proponents in the 2009 BC-STV referendum campaign, and we have over 10,000 supporters from across BC who have opted-in to our email lists and Facebook pages. Come join us at http://fairvotingbc.com/.

Your Democracy Drinks host tonight is Jim DeLaHunt, jim.delahunt (at) fairvotingbc.com, m +1-604-376-8953.
